Description Herbs perennial (Fig. 6A). Rhizomes long,creeping. Culms erect, 10−20 cm long, sharply triangle, with bristles. Basal sheaths light brown. Leaves shorter than culms at anthesis, later growing to 20 cm long, 1.5−2 mm broad, vshaped in cross section. Spike (Fig. 6B and C) solitary, 5−10 mm long, 5−7 mm broad, upper part staminate, lower part pistillate (longer than staminate part). Staminate flowers 3−5, stamens 3, scales (Fig. 6D) narrowly ovate, pale green, 1.8−2.2 mm long, 0.4−0.6 mm wide. Pistillate flowers 5−10, stigmas 3, scales (Fig. 6E) ovate, pale green, 1.6−1.8 mm long, 1−1.2 mm wide. Perigynia (Fig. 6F and G) broadly ovoid, light green, without rusty dots, 1.8−2.2 mm long, 1.4−1.6 mm broad, with 2−4 distinct veins, gradually tapering to beak, beak to ca. 0.5 mm long, with slightly concave mouth.
