IUCN Red List Category This species has a limited distribution range, only occurring in Burkina Faso and Ghana. Eight georeferenced occurrences from GBIF.org [Cyperus afro-echinatus] (2022) were mapped in GeoCAT (Bachman et al. 2011) which represents the distribution in Ghana up to the Burkina Faso border. Based on this preliminary distribution range information, the EOO is estimated at 32,520 km2 and the minimum AOO is 24 km2. If threats are identified, the species may be Endangered.
