Translation Plant (18) 25-45 (55) cm tall, rhizome abrupt. Culms straight, tight, firm, (1) 1.2-1.8 (2) mm diameter. Leaf-blades narrow, 0.5-1 mm It., apex more than twice as short. The leaf-sheath of the upper culm is usually inflated, greyish, rarely brownish, sometimes provided with a short blade. Spikelets subanthesi elliptic, 1-1.2 cm long, 0.5-0.6 cm long, fruiting broadly campanulate, rarely subglobose, 2.5-3.5(4) cm long, dense; bristles not tangled, shiny, sub-creamy or very rarely pale red. The base of the spikelets is wedged by the sterile bracts more or less removed by fruiting; the lower bract (5)7—10(13) mm lg., lanceolate, obtuse or acuminate, the others lanceolate or broadly lanceolate, acuminate, dark grey, rarely black, usually sessile with broadly white, sometimes sparsely red-lineolate margins.
