Description Basal sheaths are green–yellowish brown. The leaves are basal and the leaf blades are much reduced and rarely well developed. The ligule is present and the basal bract length compared to the inflorescence is shorter to longer when the last one is present. There are 1-6 spikelets per inflorescence, no cauline leaves. The first glume is mostly longer mucronate or awned. There are 1-2 sterile proximal glumes and 0-6 perianth parts. The perianth is whitish with a cross-section shape ±terete–flattened. The perianth barbs at the apex are absent or “crown” of sharp teeth and below the apex are absent or present, antrorse or patent, blunt or sharp. The anther apiculum is small, oblong. The embryo root cap position is basal and the embryo germ pore orientation in relation to the first leaf is perpendicular. [details]
