Description Loosely tufted; rhizomes short, ascending. Culms 70–320 mm long × 0.5–0.8 mm diam., erect, trigonous, scabrid above, enclosed by leaf-sheaths less than half the length. Leaves > culms; leaf-blades 150–340 mm long × 0.8–1.8 mm wide, lax, weakly channelled, margins scabrid, leaf apex trigonous. Inflorescence 20–40 mm long × 7–9 mm wide, spicate with 5–10 spikes spaced or contiguous at the top of the culm; lowest spike bract 15–110 mm long, filiform, > inflorescence; spikes ovoid, green maturing to brown, male flowers above female. Male flowers 2–3 per spike; stamens 2 (only filaments seen). Female glumes 3.6–5.0 mm long, ≥ utricles, ovate, margins entire and membranous, apex acuminate. Utricles 3.4–4.0 mm long × 1.0–1.5 mm wide, ovate, plano-convex, scabrid above, not turgid, pithy at base, both surfaces distinctly nerved, faintly papillose, narrowly winged, margins finely scabrid above; beak 1.2–2.0 mm long, tapering, split; orifice bifid; stipe blunt. Stigmas 2. Achenes 1.5–2.0 mm long × 0.9–1.1 mm wide, flattened (not filled out), ovate, faintly papillose. [details]
