Description Stoloniferous perennial. Culm solitary, 20–40 cm by 0.8–1.5 mm, triquetrous, smoothish to scabrid on angles. Leaves mostly basal, 1 cauline; blade narrowly linear, 30–50 cm by 3–5 mm, long-acuminate, flattish-plicate, margins recurved; sheath 2–5 cm long, pale green to dark brown, basal sheaths becoming fibrous. Lowest involucral bract leaf-like, 20–30 cm long. Inflorescence narrow, paniculate, 12–20 by 2–3 cm; nodes 3–5, lower 1–2 distant, upper crowded, each subtending 1 partial inflorescence; partial inflorescence ovoid to ellipsoid, 2–4 cm long, branched below, branches 8–15 mm long. Spikes turbinate, 0.5–0.9 cm long, androgynous, upper section male, lower female. Female glumes ovate-elliptic to ovate-lanceolate, 2.3–2.8 mm long, acute to subacute, shortly awned, sides pale brown, 3–4-nerved, keel 3-nerved. Utricles patent, ovoid to ovoid-cylindric, trigonous, 4 by 1.3–1.5 mm, pale green, 12–16-nerved, glabrous; beak 1.5–2 mm long, apex slightly 2-toothed. Stigmas 3. Nutlets narrowly rhomboid-ellipsoid to rhomboid-ovoid, triquetrous, 2–2.5 by 1–1.5 mm. [details]
