Description Rizoma de entrenudos largos, generalmente delgado, a veces laxamente cespitoso. Tallos (8)15-40(50) cm, obtusamente trígonos, lisos o ligeramente escábridos hacia el ápice. Hojas (0,6)1,5-2,5(2,9) mm de anchura, de longitud menor que los tallos, ásperas en los bordes y nervio medio del envés, ± planas, blandas, rectas o algo curvadas, glaucas, frecuentemente pubescentes en el envés y las vainas; lígula hasta 2 mm, de ápice obtuso o agudo; sin antelígula; vainas basales escuamiformes, enteras, de color púrpura o pardo-púrpura. Bráctea inferior folíacea o setácea, de menor longitud que la inflorescencia o raramente algo mayor, no envainante o con una vaina muy corta; espiga masculina solitaria, de (8)10-20(24) mm, linear o estrechamente fusiforme. Espigas femeninas (1)2-3, de (5)7-12(15) mm, ovoides o cortamente oblongas, densifloras, sésiles, agrupadas junto a la masculina. Translation Rhizome with long internodes, generally slender, sometimes loosely tufted. Stems (8)15–40(50) cm, obtusely trigonous, smooth or slightly scabrid toward the apex. Leaves (0.6)1.5–2.5(2.9) mm wide, shorter than the stems, rough on the margins and on the midrib beneath, ± flat, soft, straight or slightly curved, glaucous, frequently pubescent on the abaxial surface and on the sheaths; ligule up to 2 mm, with obtuse or acute apex; without antiligule; basal sheaths scale-like, entire, purple or purple-brown. Lower bract leaf-like or setaceous, shorter than the inflorescence or rarely slightly longer, not sheathing or with a very short sheath; male spike solitary, (8)10–20(24) mm long, linear or narrowly fusiform. Female spikes (1)2–3, (5)7–12(15) mm long, ovoid or shortly oblong, densely flowered, sessile, clustered near the male spike. Male glumes obovate, acute or obtuse, generally dark brown, without scarious margin, with a green keel; female glumes broadly oval to orbicular, acute or mucronulate, generally dark brown, shorter than the utricles, with or without a narrow scarious margin.
