Description Cespitosa. Tallos 11-20(27) cm, trígonos, lisos o ligeramente escábridos hacia el ápice. Hojas 1-2,6(3) mm de anchura, de mayor longitud que los tallos, rara vez menores, ásperas en los bordes, planas, ± blandas, rectas o algo curvadas, de color verde pálido; lígula menor de 1 mm, de ápice redondeado o truncado; sin antelígula; vainas basales escuamiformes, enteras, de color pardo. Bráctea inferior foliácea, de mayor longitud que la inflorescencia, envainante; las de las espigas superiores glumáceas o setáceas, de menor longitud que la inflorescencia, no envainantes. Espigas 3-5, andróginas, de 9-15 mm, en la parte masculina es lineal o estrechamente fusiforme, la femenina ovoide, laxiflora, con (1)2-6 flores; las 2-3 superiores sésiles, las (1)2 inferiores basilares o subbasilares, con largos pedúnculos filiformes. Glumas masculinas ± ovales, de ápice obtuso, pajizas o de color pardo claro, con margen escarioso; glumas femeninas anchasmente ovales, de ápice mucronado –rara vez múticas–, con un mucrón de longitud tanto mayor cuanto más baja es la inserción de la gluma, verdosas o hialinas, de menor longitud que los utrículos (sin contar el mucrón). Utrículos 3-4(4,5) × 1,2-1,9 mm, suberectos, de contorno oval u obovado, ± trígonos, con los nervios muy prominentes, glabros, verdosos o de color pardo, estipitados, sin pico o con éste muy corto, liso, entero y cónico; raquilla siempre presente, uninerve. Translation Tuft-forming. Stems 11–20(27) cm, trigonous, smooth or slightly scabrid towards the apex. Leaves 1–2.6(3) mm wide, longer than the stems, rarely shorter, rough on the margins, flat, ± soft, straight or slightly curved, pale green; ligule less than 1 mm, with rounded or truncate apex; without anti-ligule; basal sheaths scale-like, entire, brown. Lower bract leaf-like, longer than the inflorescence, sheathing; bracts of the upper spikes glumaceous or setaceous, shorter than the inflorescence, not sheathing. Spikes 3–5, androgynous, 9–15 mm long; male portion linear or narrowly fusiform, female portion ovoid, lax-flowered, with (1)2–6 flowers; the upper 2–3 sessile, the (1)2 lower basal or subbasal, with long filiform peduncles. Male glumes ± ovate, with obtuse apex, straw-coloured or pale brown, with scarious margins; female glumes broadly ovate, with mucronate apex—rarely muticous—the mucro longer the lower the glume insertion, greenish or hyaline, shorter than the utricles (excluding the mucro).
