Description Although variable, Carex × rotae is intermediate between the parents in its leaf width and leaf and stem length. It can be further distinguished from C. appropinquata by its dark brown, rather than matt black, slightly fibrous basal sheaths, by its occasionally extremely long inflorescence (here showing a resemblance to a plant which has been called C. paniculata forma simplex) and by its often winged utricles. It further differs from C. paniculata in its lesser stature, darker, more fibrous, basal sheaths, shorter inflorescence and less tussocky habit. This hybrid appears to be partially fertile. [details]
