Description Intermediate between its parents in height, leaf width and inflorescence length, this sterile hybrid can also be distinguished from C. paniculata by its less tussocky habit, its mid green rather than dark green leaves, its tubular ligule, its darker, more uniform inflorescence and its unwinged or slightly winged utricle beak. From C. diandra it further differs in its mid green, involute leaves. An additional difference can be seen at flowering time (May/June), when the inflorescence of the hybrid overtops the leaves while that of C. diandra is often concealed by them. From both species it can be distinguished in the field by the dull grey colour of its empty utricles contrasting with the brown of the parents’ fertile utricles. It is best told from C. × rotae by its greener leaves and its tubular ligule. [details]
