Description Herbs grasslike, 30–70 cm tall, rhizomatous, caespitose, perennial; rhizome densely branching, 2–3 mm diam.; pseudoculm trigonous; cataphylls brown to deep wine, chartaceous. Leaves basal; leaf blades linear, 30–64 × 0.3–0.4 cm, brown-green, nonbullate, membranaceous to subcoriaceous, 3-costate, the secondary costae distinct, inverse W-shaped in cross section, margins and midrib scabrous, apex acute; pseudopetiole absent; sheath margins 1–1.2 mm wide, reddish to brownish red, membranaceous. Culm 1 per plant, scapiform, central, 30–62 cm × 0.9–1 mm, trigonous, scabrous on angles; bract subtending the synflorescence foliaceous, linear, 27–32 cm long, surpassing the synflorescence. Synflorescence terminal, paniculiform, cylindrical, lax; main axis 2–4 cm long, branched; nodes 5–6; first internode 0.9–2.9 cm long; second internode 0.4–0.7 cm long; paraclades 3 on basal node, patent; second-order ramification absent; main epipodium 0.7–1.4 cm long, scabrous; prophylls 2-keeled. Spikes in diminutive terminal clusters, sessile, ellipsoid, 5–7 mm long; spicoid bracts 1.2–1.5 mm long, pale brown, apex obtuse, dorsally mucronate, margins membranaceous; floral bracts 2, free, 1.5–1.8 mm long, apex acute, keel wingless, sparsely scabridulous. Staminate flowers 2 per spicoid; anthers obclavate, 0.5–0.8 mm long; filaments 1–2.5 mm long; stigma branches 2; style 0.5–1 mm long. Fructification biconvex, ovoid, 1.5–1.9 × 1–1.2 mm, greenish- and reddish-dotted, wrinkled; apex contracted; base obtuse. [details]
