Description Herbs robust, 0.8–0.9 m tall, rhizomatous, caespitose, perennial. Rhizome long creeping, 1.0–1.5 cm diam. Pseudoculm trigonous. Cataphylls brown, fibrous. Leaves basal; leaf blades linear, 1.0–1.1 m × 3.0–3.2 cm, arching, green, non-bullate, coriaceous, 3-costate with the secondary costae distinct, inverse W-shaped in cross-section, the margins and midrib scabrous, the apex acute; pseudopetiole absent; sheath margins 7–8 mm wide, brown, membranaceous. Culm 1 per plant, scapiform, central, erect, 0.7–0.9 m × 3.5–4.5 mm, trigonous, scabrous on angles, leafy; bract subtending the synflorescence foliaceous, linear, 50–58 cm long, surpassing the synflorescence; pseudopetiole absent. Synflorescence terminal, paniculiform, somewhat cylindric, lax, the main axis 8–12 cm long, branched, nodes 5–6, the 1st internode 2.2–5.5 cm long, the 2nd internode 2.5–2.8 cm long, the paraclades 6–9 on the basal node, patent to reflexed, the 2nd order ramification present and unbranched, the main epipodium 2.8–3.0 cm long, faintly scabrous; the prophylls faintly bikeeled. Spikes in terminal clusters, sessile, ellipsoid, 2–3 mm long; spicoid bracts 1.5–1.8 mm long, brown, the apex acute, the margins membranaceous; floral bracts 2, partly connate, apex often lacerate, 1.5–2 mm long, the keel wingless, faintly scabridulous. Staminate flowers 2 per spicoid, the anther obclavate, 0.5–0.7 mm long, the filament 4 mm long; stigma branches 2. Fructification biconvex, obovoid, 3.0–3.1 × 2.1 mm, constricted at the apex, the base obtusoid; greenish to plumbeous and reddish dotted, slightly wrinkled. [details]
