Description Herbs moderately robust to rarely robust, 20–80 cm tall, rhizomatous, sometimes caespitose; rhizome densely branching, long to short creeping, 0.2–0.4 cm diam.; pseudoculm bulblike; cataphylls brown to reddish, chartaceous. Leaves basal; leaf blades linear, 12–50 × 0.7–1 cm, erect to arching, greenish brown, nonbullate, coriaceous, 3-costate with secondary costae distinct, inverse W-shaped in cross section, apex acute, margins and midrib scabrous and revolute; pseudopetiole absent; sheath margins 2–2.5 mm wide, reddish brown, membranaceous. Culm 1 per plant, scapiform, central, erect, 25–75 cm × 2–2.5 mm, trigonous, scabrous on angles, leafy; bract subtending the synflorescence foliaceous, linear, 2.5–9(–18) cm long, occasionally surpassing the synflorescence. Synflorescence terminal, paniculiform, pyramidal, lax; main axis 2.5–5 cm long, branched; nodes 3–5; first internode 0.3–1.1 cm long; second internode 0.1–0.9 cm long; paraclades 3 on basal node, patent; second-order ramification present and branched or occasionally unbranched; main epipodium 0.4–2.2 cm long, lightly scabrous; prophylls 2-keeled. Spike stalked, broadly ellipsoid, occasionally cylindric, 8–14(–21) mm long; spicoid bracts 2.7–2.8 mm long, brown, apex obtuse, dorsally mucronate, margins membranaceous and scabridulous; floral bracts 2, partly connate, 2.3–2.5 mm long, apex acute, keel wingless, densely scabridulous. Staminate flowers 2 per spicoid; anthers obclavate, 1–1.2 mm long; filaments 2.5–3 mm long; stigma branches 2; style 2–2.5 mm long. Fructification unequally convex, obovoid, 3–3.4 × 1.6–2 mm, greenish brown and scattered reddish-dotted, slightly wrinkled, apex and base obtusoid. [details]
