Description Caespitose perennial, (4–) 10–50 cm tall. Rhizomes 3–15 mm long, 1–2.5 mm in diameter, indurate, horizontal. Culms (0.7–) 1.2–1.6 (–2.0) mm in diameter, trigonous, smooth. Leaves 3–6, 5–45 cm long, (1–) 2–3 mm wide, v-shaped, margins and keel scabrellate. Inflorescence bracts (4–) 5–9, 3–25 cm long, (1–) 2–3 mm wide, v-shaped, margins and keel scabrellate, horizontal to ascendent at 45°. Rays (2–) 5–12 (–14), 1.5–9 (–12) cm long, smooth; secondary rays absent. Spikes (10–) 15–25 (–35) mm long, (8–) 10–25 mm wide, loosely ovoid to ovoid-cylindric; rachis (4–) 8–12 (–23) mm long. Spikelets (10–) 30–70, 5–22 mm long, 0.7–1.1 mm wide, linear, compressed-quadrate; rachilla deciduous, ca. 0.4 mm wide, 0.1–0.2 mm thick, flexuous, greenish, successive scales 1.8–2.6 (–3.3) mm apart, wings 0.3–0.5 mm wide, hyaline. Scales persistent, (2–) 4–9 (–20), 2.4–3.4 mm long, (1–) 1.3–1.8 mm wide, oblong-elliptic, apex broadly rounded, mucronulate, overlapping lower ¼–⅓ of next scale, laterally 3–5-nerved, greenish white, often streaked with red, medially 3-nerved, green. Stamens 3; filaments 2.0–3.4 mm long; anthers 0.3–0.5 mm long, ellipsoid to oblong-ellipsoid, connective apex not prolonged. Style 0.4–1.0 mm long; stigmas 3, 1.0–3.0 mm long. Achenes (1.4–) 1.6–1.8 (–2.0) mm long, 0.4–0.5 mm wide, trigonous, linear to narrowly oblong, apex subacute, apiculate, base stipitate 0.1–0.2 mm long, faces concave to barely convex, surface punctate, brown to reddish brown. [details]
