Description The plant is a caespitose perennial with delicate, slender, terete, glabrous stems 8–10 cm tall and about 1 mm in diameter, lacking a caudex. Its leaves are distributed along the stem rather than basally aggregated, with linear, membranous blades 1.5–2.5 cm long and 0.5 mm wide, sparsely ciliolate along the margins with trichomes up to 0.3 mm and scabrous apices; the leaf sheaths show vinaceous striae, and the contraligules are lanceolate, 3–3.5 mm long, membranous but not hyaline, ciliolate, stramineous, vinaceous, and typically cleft at the base. The axillary, paniculate inflorescences are slender, 5–8 cm long and 0.4 mm wide, striate, glabrous, and bear 2–3 nodes, with female spikelets at the upper nodes and male spikelets at the lower ones; the sheath of the lowermost inflorescence bract is about 5 mm and ochraceous. Spikelets form spike-like clusters 2–2.5 mm long with 5–7 subdistichously arranged spikelets, and both male and female spikelets are similar, about 1.5 mm long, with ovate glumes 1 × 0.6 mm, reddish and hyaline-margined with apiculate tips. The fructifications (utricles) are 3–3.5 mm long, exceeding the upper glume, obscurely trigonous and stramineous, and the hypogynous squamellae are densely pilose with white trichomes up to 1.2 mm long.
