Description Herbs robust, 0.9–1.2 m tall, rhizomatous, caespitose, perennial; rhizome short creeping, 1.5 cm diam.; pseudoculm trigonous; cataphylls brown, coriaceous. Leaves basal; leaf blades linear, 1.2–1.3 m × 2.8–3.2 cm, arching, non-bullate, green, coriaceous, 3-costate with secondary costae distinct, inverse W-shaped in cross-section, apex acute, margins and midrib slightly scabrous; pseudopetiole absent; sheath margins 3–4 mm wide, brown, membranaceous. Culm one per plant, scapiform, central, erect, robust, ca. 80 cm × 4–5 mm, trigonous, scabrous on angles, leafy; bract subtending the synflorescence foliaceous, linear, 50–68 cm, surpassing the synflorescence; pseudopetiole absent. Synflorescence terminal, paniculiform, pyramidal, lax; main axis 17–28 cm long, strongly branched; nodes 7–10; first internode 5–13 cm long; second internode 2.8–4 cm long; paraclades 4–6 on basal node, patent or erect; second-order ramification present and branched; main epipodium 2–2.8 cm long, scabrous; prophylls faintly bikeeled. Spike stalked, ellipsoid, 4–6 mm long; spicoid bracts 1.9–2.1(–3.4) mm long, brown, apex obtuse, mucronate, sometimes long-mucronate on basal ones, margins membranaceous; floral bracts 2, free, 2.5–3.2 mm long, keel wingless, scabridulous. Staminate flowers 2 per spicoid; anther obclavate, ca. 1.5 mm long; filament 4–5 mm long; style 1.5–2 mm long; stigma branches 2.
