Belgian Register of Marine Species online

Added on 2010-10-01 11:41:50 by Vandepitte, Leen
The Belgian Register of Marine Species is now available online. It contains all currently accepted scientific names for all sea creatures appearing in the Belgian part of the North Sea, mainly based on the knowledge of field experts and – for some taxonomic groups – complemented with available literature.
Geographical field experts have only listed the species they know themselves or are familiar with; additional species thus might occur in the Belgian part of the North Sea which are not yet listed in this Belgian Register. If missing species would be identified or other additions can be made, this can be reported through the feedback form available on the website.

Although probably incomplete, this Register does represent the most complete list of marine species occurring in the Belgian part of the North Sea at the moment. As marine biologists are still intensively studying the Belgian part of the North Sea and new or yet undocumented species will ‘surface’, this Register will constantly be updated in the future.
